Poetry Slam at the Cantab Lounge: PSi Event Qualifiers

Poets who win any open slam at the Cantab are also invited to compete for a chance to represent the Cantab at PSi competition, either at the National Poetry Slam or the Individual World Poetry Slam. The date of the open slam determines which event(s) the winner is qualified for.

Note that only winners of open slams are eligible for PSi Event Qualifiers. Winners of demonstration ("demo") slams, "gimmick" slams, theme slams, semi-finals or finals during the 8x8 series, or other special slam events such as the Head-To-Head Haiku Slam do not qualify.

  • Poets who win an open slam between the dates of the National Poetry Slam and the Cantab Team Selection Semi-Finals (approximately August through March, including the week of NPS) are qualified to participate in the Cantab Team Selection Semi-Finals.
  • Poets who win an open slam between the dates of the Individual World Poetry Slam and the Cantab World Qualifier Semi-Finals (approximately October through January, including the week of IWPS) are qualified to participate in the Cantab World Qualifier Semi-Finals.
  • Any poet who has held the Champion of Champions title (see 8x8 rules for details) for any period of time during the date range(s) above qualifies for the respective semi-final without winning an open slam.

Note that the above date ranges overlap, so a poet could qualify for both the team and individual semi-finals just by winning one open slam.

Open slam winners may check the official schedule to see when they are invited to return to slam again. Winners are also encouraged to contact the SlamMaster directly by email with any questions or concerns.
